15th Anniversary of the European Charter for Equality of Women and Men in Local Life

12 May 2021 | 10.00-11.00 CET

Kickoff Webinar

2021 is a milestone year for the European Charter for Equality of Women and Men in Local Life, it’s time to celebrate and commemorate 15 years of commitment and action in favour of gender equality and women’s rights at local and regional level across Europe.

What started with a handful of local governments declaring their intention to act to promote gender equality has developed into an extensive European network of over 1,850 signatories in 36 countries.

CEMR intends to organise a number of actions during 2021 to:

  • Recognise the achievements and advances in local equality that have been made possible by the European Charter for Equality.
  • Reflect on the Charter as a living document; determine how it can be kept modern and relevant for today’s citizens and for years into the future; identify methods to better communicate how it works; connect it to broader national and international policy frameworks.
  • Celebrate the people and organisations that have made the Charter a reality and a success
  • [Possibly] Update/modernise the Charter and its tools based on the results of the 2021 reflection process (2022-2023)

The anniversary activities will kick off on 12 May, the official “birthday” of the European Charter for Equality of Women and Men in Local Life.
